Happy Remarks

What was on the wall that day.

My baby slept 12 hours straight through the night! Woohoo!

Today, my parents have been married 62 years. My sister and I have been so blessed to have the greatest parents in the world. I am grateful that we can all be together today.

My black lab loves fetch more than anything in the world. Around 5 pm we walk out to play it. Her joy of running as fast as she can to get the thrown ball then running it back to me is beautiful. There is nothing more exciting in the world than chasing down that ball.

My boyfriend likes to read to me in bed. It's the sweetest thing ever.

My wife brought home a slice of carrot cake from a meeting because she knows. Twenty-two years of knowing.

My great-aunt is ninety-four and still asks me what I'm reading. I bring her my answers.

Spring break, 1993. A motel pool. My brother and I underwater making faces. We came up laughing every time.

My dog turning circles before lying down.

Folding warm towels straight from the dryer.

Finding the song I forgot existed on a playlist.

Tomatoes warm from the sun.

My wife and I read together at night. Different books. Same lamp.

My grandmother used to leave the radio on for the dog when she went out. The dog was named Penny. She listened to NPR.

Cracking open a fresh jar of peanut butter.

New journal. First page. Pen that works.

Found a twenty in a coat pocket I haven't worn since spring. Spring me is generous.
