What was on the wall that day.
When a friend finds how emojis work in messaging and they light up with pure joy. Watching them run around like a kid who just arrived at Disneyland for the first time.
Someone texting me knows I'm about to drive and says, "Drive safely". That wasn't necessary, it's an extra thought, we could have ended at "talk later". But it shows a care and kindness that makes me smile.
Finding the lost sock.
The first daffodil. Yellow on a gray day.
My mother taught me to read tea leaves. I don't believe in it. I love that she taught me.
My father's reading glasses on the kitchen table. Always there. Always slightly crooked. I have them in a drawer.
A black bear with two cubs across the meadow. Far enough.
A package on the porch I forgot I ordered. Past me strikes again.
The Thanksgiving my brother got home from his deployment. He was so tan. He ate three plates. He fell asleep on the rug.
Soup left in the pot for tomorrow.
A clean countertop in the morning.
I have a job that is hard but means something. I don't take that for granted.
The crisp edge of a grilled cheese.
The man at the deli puts the extra pickle in even though I don't ask. I see him do it. He sees me see.
